Pine Mountain Lake Fuels Reduction Projects 1 & 2

In 2021 the Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District (TCRCD) received funding from Cal Fire to treat approximately 640 acres of the green space in PMLA and adjacent properties to the east in need of having hazardous fuels removed. The District was awarded funding in late 2024 to treat an additional 156 acres, known as Pine Mountain Lake 2, for fuels reduction adding to the existing Pine Mountain Fuels Reduction Project and expanding the combined defensible fuel break to approximately 796 acres. A key outcome of these projects is that it will connect fuel breaks recently completed by the US Forest Service, Tuolumne Fire Safe Council, and Pine Mountain Lake Homeowners Association (PMLA).

These combined projects will decrease the wildfire threat to the 1,363 households within Pine Mountain Lake, and the approximately 858 households within the Groveland Community Service District. The project’s intent is to continue to develop a defensible fuel break to the east of Pine Mountain Lake and Groveland while restoring and maintaining the Sierra mixed conifer landscape in this area. The project area is located in a very high fire hazard zone and has been dramatically impacted by conifer mortality. The project location is anchored by Highway 120 to the south and the rim of the Tuolumne River to the north.
