Jamestown Road Fuels Management Project

The Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District (TCRCD) is planning a defensible fuel break along Jamestown Road, a strategically located evacuation route. This will provide increased wildfire protection to the communities of Jamestown and Sonora. The Project is located on the west and east sides of Jamestown Road and north of the neighborhoods on Golf Links Road. The proposed Project would treat and reduce fire fuels in an area that covers approximately 625 acres utilizing equipment where possible and hand thinning on the steeper, inaccessible areas.

The project will provide wildfire protection to Jamestown which has a population of 3,379 (2020 census) and the City of Sonora which has a population of 4,994 (2020 census). The project area, classified as High Fire Hazard Severity, was identified by TCRCD and the CalFire Tuolumne Calaveras Unit (TCU) staff for its strategic location and in response to the Washington Fire which threatened the City of Sonora 2021.
